INGERSOLL, Ontario, April 12, 2007 — Oxford MP Dave MacKenzie, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for FedNor, today announced a FedNor contribution of $287,500 to the local Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) known as the Oxford Small Business Support Centre, in support of its ongoing operations for one year.

Community Futures Development Corporations such as Oxford Small Business Support are an invaluable resource to entrepreneurs and the small business sector across rural Ontario,” said Mr. MacKenzie.  “I am pleased that Canada’s New Government funding of $287,500 will be used to help expand the local economy and create jobs.”

Canada’s New Government introduced a number of key initiatives in support of the small business sector in last month’s Budget 2007, including:

  • reducing the federal administrative and paperwork burden on small business
  • reducing the tax compliance burden on small business
  • introducing tax reductions which will lower Canada’s tax rate on new business investment

CFDCs provide services to support local economic development and small business growth, including:  access to capital; business services; community-based projects; and strategic community planning and socio-economic development.

Over the last year, the Oxford Small Business Support Centre CFDC invested $514,715 and assisted in creating or maintaining 29 jobs, contributing to an enhanced business community.

“We are proud of our record in helping to grow the regional economy,” said Adrian Ten Hove, Chair of the Oxford Small Business Support Centre.  “This funding gives us the tools we need to continue this important work.”

The Oxford Small Business Support Centre is one of 61 Community Futures Development Corporations in rural and Northern Ontario funded by FedNor’s Community Futures Program.
