“Hidden Goldmine Bakery”

Wins Members’ Choice Awards

The Hidden Goldmine Bakery has received the prestigious Members’ Choice Award out of many nominations from across the province at Community Futures Ontario’s 24th Annual Conference.

Established in 2004, Cheryl Freeman’s grandmother sold her brown sugar fudge recipe which was the first stepping stone towards their current business 13 years later. The original Hidden Goldmine Fudge Nugget not only aligns with the history of their town (being the first goldmine in Ontario) but it was immediately identified that this style of baking triggered the “homemade just like Grandma used to make” memory and experience which was a winning idea.

Now Brad and Cheryl Freeman continue to run the family business of Hidden Goldmine Bakery in Madoc, Ontario with three generations behind the counter.

The Hidden Goldmine Bakery was honoured at the annual Awards Gala dinner that was recently held at the Four Points by Sheraton. Over 200 delegates and guests from Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) came together to help celebrate their win. They were nominated for the award by the CFDC of North & Central Hastings and South Algonquin.

"We are proud of the success of the Hidden Goldmine Bakery whom we have worked with for the past 13 years. We have seen them grow from a one person operation to a significant employer for the area with 15 employees and a beautiful downtown location. They have worked hard to build a successful business which has contributed to an increasingly more healthy economy -- exactly what CFDC strives to achieve. Congratulations Cheryl & Brad Freeman of the Hidden Goldmine Bakery, downtown Madoc, on your achievement”, said John Kirby, Vice-Chair Community Futures Development Corporation of North & Central Hastings and South Algonquin.
