Mor – Pac Limited, Brighton, ON
Bob Hallworth, President

In 1984, Mor-Pac, a small chemical packaging company had 7 employees and in their 7500 sq. ft. building grossed $208,000 in annual sales. One of their first major products was the packaging of ant traps for Green Cross.

In 1988, the company had grown the business to 25 full time employees in a 30,000 sq. ft. building and slightly over $1 million in gross sales.

At that time, President Bob Hallworth, who has a close relationship with his customers, became aware of an opportunity to help out a client who had been let down by another supplier.  Bob saw this as his chance to grow the business, but he would need additional financing in order to make the required changes.  When he approached local banks they rejected his financial application.  He then became aware that Industry Canada had established a Community Futures organization in the area called Trenval Business Development Corporation.  He then contacted them with his proposal.

The Trenval Board of Directors could see the potential for additional jobs in their area and over the next decade arranged for two successive $75,000 loans.  This helped to leverage additional financing from other sources for their growing operation.

Their business expanded into new product lines.  Today, they manufacture and package over 400 products for well known major companies such as Shell Canada, 3M Canada, Trem Co., LePage, BASF, Benjamin Moore and Interwood Marketing.

They also manufacture most of the bottled chemicals for lawn and garden products for brand names such as Wilson’s, C.I.L.and Green Cross.  They are involved in a joint venture with a company that supplies 70% of all home and garden products.

Their product line, however, is not limited to these consumer shelf type products, as they also supply the Farm Agriculture industry with their products, such as liquid fertilizers, that are dispatched by the tanker truckload.  They are also involved in manufacturing a life saving product that is being used to detonate and clear out land mines that have been left in war torn countries.

As their business grew, so did their need for space and employees.

Today, Mor-Pac Limited employees over 85 full time and 20 part time people.  They now have a warehouse and two manufacturing facilities with a total of over 75,000 sq. ft.  Their annual gross sales is now over $3 million dollars per year.

President Bob Hallworth is proud of the accomplishments of his company and the economic impact that his business brings to a small town such as Brighton.  He credits his team and that all important financial support that Trenval BDC provided to them at a crucial time a decade ago.  He said without Trenval, this growth would not have been possible.

Trenval Business Development Corporation is pleased that they have been able to fulfill their mandate of such local job creation and are proud of Bob Hallworth and Mor-Pac Limited of Brighton.
