The Muskoka Wildlife Centre was created, in 2000, with two goals in mind:  the first was to provide an enlightening and inspiring environment where individuals, families, schools and other groups could spend time learning about Ontario's precious wildlife; the second was to create a home for indigenous wildlife, many of which were ex-pets, abandoned or were injured in the wild and are unable to be released.  Combining the two goals makes for an unforgettable experience for visitors.  The Wildlife Centre is also actively involved in many animal protection and conservation projects, where it works cooperatively with both private and public sector.

Since its opening in 2000, the centre has seen over 10,000 visitors, all which have been given the rare opportunity to take part in hands-on wildlife programming during approx. 3200 scheduled interpretive sessions.  At the same time, the live-animal outreach program has managed to deliver 1800 presentation to upward of 450,000 individuals.  Muskoka benefits economically through the creation of new employment opportunities, 5 full time and 5 seasonal positions.  The Centre is a tourism destination and also attracts nature enthusiasts, conservationists, film crews and photographers to the region.  The benefits reach far beyond the rural community, as the centre is developing as awareness of the importance to everyone of protecting wildlife and their natural habitat.  "Here at Muskoka Wildlife Centre, we believe people protect only what they love and can only love what they understand."  With keeping that motto in mind and the continuing hard work by the people involved at the Muskoka Wildlife Centre, the centre will continue to be a benefit all.
