June 03, 2004 - NORTH SIMCOE COMMUNITY FUTURES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (NSCFDC)

Debra Muenz, General Manager of North Simcoe Community Futures Development Corporation (NSCFDC), in partnership with Susan MacDonald, Executive Director of Community Link, are pleased to announce the launch of a new bilingual website for students in the North Simcoe Region.  The objective of this website is to provide a one-stop location for students to obtain information on careers and education, and to locate volunteer and job opportunities that are available in this region.  Industry Canada funding will be used to complete the development of the website and cover the costs of training students to take a lead role in maintaining and updating the site.  The project is an amazing opportunity for young volunteers to gain skills in the design, development and maintenance of a dynamic, interactive website, and take a leadership role in this on-going, community-based project.  Student volunteers will be meeting over the summer to finalize the website development, create training manuals, promote the Website Logo Contest, and design marketing materials for the project.  Volunteers will be surveying the users of the site to obtain ongoing suggestions for enhancement.  Website Designer Cheryl Ferguson (from Clicktostart.com) will be training student volunteers to maintain, update and enhance the site, so that it will continue to be a tool that students and educators will actively use.  linkingyouth.ca connects students with local, provincial, and federal information resources that are available to them on:
- getting to know yourself (identify your interests to help select a career path)
- getting a job (links to YMCA Employment Resource Centre templates for résumés, cover letters, etc.)
- locating volunteer opportunities (communitylink.ca)
- locating information on education and training, starting a business and MORE!
Visit linkingyouth.ca and let us know what you think.  We continue to work together to build a prosperous community.
