PRINCE EDWARD/LENNOX & ADDINGTON COMMUNITY FUTURES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION News Release PELA CFDC AND INDUSTRY CANADA INVEST IN PEC CHAMBER OF TOURISM AND COMMERCE PROJECTS

PICTON, Ontario, February 26, 2005 – Mr. Doug Sexsmith, Chair, Prince Edward/Lennox & Addington Community Futures Development Corporation (PELA CFDC) and Daryl Kramp, MP, Prince Edward-Hastings, today announced support for two projects under the Government of Canada’s Eastern Ontario Development Fund.  The two projects that are being developed by the Prince Edward County Chamber of Tourism and Commerce (PECCTAC) are:

PECCTAC Public Internet Terminals Applicant:  Prince Edward County Chamber of Tourism and Commerce Funding:  $7,500 Project Objectives:  The placement of 3 public access internet terminals in the Chamber office will:  Provide web-based self-help tourist information to visitors Provide internet access for the visiting public

PECCTAC Accommodations Association Marketing Program Applicant:  Prince Edward County Chamber of Tourism and Commerce Accommodation Association Funding:  $10,000 Project Objectives:  The marketing initiative will promote the growing range of accommodation services in PEC including the new on-line availability/reservation system.  “I congratulate the Prince Edward County Chamber of Tourism and Commerce for their initiative to provide internet access for the visiting public and on-line inquiries.  With the support of PELA CFDC, I am confident this project will be of great benefit to residents and visitors alike,” said Prince Edward-Hastings MP, Daryl Kramp.

PEC Mayor Leo Finnegan, who was also present for the announcement stated, “On behalf of County Council for Prince Edward, allow me to offer congratulations to the Chamber and PELA CFDC for their support on these two projects, which will further promote tourism in the County.”

Rob Brown, President of the PEC Chamber of Tourism and Commerce, speaking on behalf of the Chamber said, “The partnership with PELA CFDC means progress.  The financial jumpstart we are receiving will provide unprecedented access to the internet and invaluable marketing support to the newly formed PEC Accommodation Association.”

“We are pleased to support projects that assist economic diversification and growth in the region,” said PELA CFDC Chair Sexsmith.  “We are proud of the tremendous efforts the Prince Edward County Chamber of Tourism and Commerce have made in promoting area economic development, and their commitment to the community.”
