ORILLIA, Ontario. June 28, 2007 — Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for FedNor, today announced a federal contribution of $585,000 in the Orillia Area Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) in support of its ongoing operations over the next two years.

Canada’s New Government is committed to helping communities and businesses in the Orillia area reach their full potential,” stated Mr. Stanton.  “We are proud to support the Orillia Area Community Development Corporation in their efforts to develop the local economy.”

Budget 2007, announced March 19th in Ottawa, introduced a number of key initiatives in support of the small business sector, including:

  • reducing the federal paperwork burden on small business
  • reducing the tax compliance burden on small business
  • introducing tax reductions which will lower Canada’s tax rate on new business investment

The Orillia Area Community Development Corporation provides services to support local economic development and small business growth, including:  access to capital; business services; community-based projects; and strategic community planning and socio-economic development.

Over the last year, the Orillia Area Community Development Corporation invested $691,998 and assisted in creating or maintaining 137 jobs, contributing to an enhanced business community.

“We are pleased that the Government of Canada is supporting our economic development efforts through this funding,” said Orillia Area Community Development Corporation Chair, Bill Adams.  “This funding will give our organization and our partners the tools we need to implement solutions to improve the region’s economy.”

The Orillia Area Community Development Corporation is one of 61 Community Futures Development Corporations in rural and Northern Ontario funded by FedNor’s Community Futures Program.
