ORILLIA, Ontario, March 20, 2009 — Today, Bruce Stanton, Member of Parliament for Simcoe North, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for FedNor, announced that the Government of Canada is investing in community-based projects and business services in South-central Ontario.

With the Government of Canada’s investment through FedNor’s Community Futures Program, the Orillia Area Community Development Corporation will offer business services, access to capital for small and medium-sized businesses, and support for community development projects for a three-year period.

The Government of Canada is committed to helping communities and businesses in the Orillia area reach their full potential,” said MP Stanton.  “We are pleased to support the Orillia Area Community Development Corporation in its efforts to develop the local economy.”

“I am proud of our Government’s track record in providing the tools rural communities need to grow and succeed,” said Minister Clement.  “Our investment in this Community Futures Development Corporation ensures that small and medium-sized businesses and communities in the Orillia area continue to have access to information and services vital to their economic wellbeing.”

“We are pleased that FedNor’s ongoing support allows us to focus on our community priorities,” said John Smalley, Vice Chair of the Orillia Area Community Development Corporation.  “This investment will help us to develop new industry, create job opportunities and foster the growth of local businesses.”
