OHSWEKEN, Ontario, July 14, 2008 — The Government of Canada is continuing to support the growth and success of First Nations communities and small businesses through an investment in the local Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) known as the Two Rivers Community Development Centre.

A federal contribution of $300,000 was announced today by Stormont–Dundas–South Glengarry MP and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for FedNor, Guy Lauzon, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health and Minister for FedNor, in support of the CFDC’s ongoing operations for the next year.

The Two Rivers Community Development Centre continues to help create a vibrant entrepreneurial environment by assisting First Nations small and medium-sized businesses in its service area,” stated Mr. Lauzon.  “The Government of Canada is proud to support the Centre’s ongoing efforts to further grow the economy and create jobs for the people of the Six Nations and New Credit communities.”

As reaffirmed in Budget 2008, the Government of Canada is making investments in people, knowledge, modern infrastructure and a sound and efficient financial sector to provide the foundation for global success.

The Two Rivers Community Development Centre is an Aboriginal CFDC which provides services to enhance local economic development and small business growth, including access to capital, business counselling, support for community-based projects, strategic community planning and socio-economic development.

“With this support from FedNor, we can continue to make significant contributions towards the development of local projects, encourage small business growth and increase community partnerships,” said Two Rivers Community Development Centre Chair, Warren Sault.  “We look forward to seeing the future results of this funding.”

The Two Rivers CDC is one of 61 Community Futures Development Corporations in rural and Northern Ontario funded by FedNor’s Community Futures Program.
