Awards of Excellence 2019Kapuskasing, ON – Fromagerie Kapuskoise – Entrepreneur of the Year; From being a dream to opening their doors four years ago, the Fromagerie is a favourite stop for locals and tourists alike for artisan cheese. Thanks to the assistance received from North Claybelt CFDC, the Fromagerie was born to become the delicious success it is today. Without the assistance of Superior East CFDC this initiative would not have been possible. LEARN HOW OTF CAN SUPPORT YOUR GROW APPLICATIONIf you have an idea for a Grow project and want to learn how to submit a strong grant application, join the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) for a series of Grow Investment Stream in-person workshops, webinars and telephone coaching clinics These sessions will offer provide concrete information on what makes a competitive Grow project as well as the common decline reasons for Grow grant applications. When: September 12th – November 20th, 2019 Registration: Visit our sign up page and register for as many sessions as you need. WHAT WE’RE OFFERING In-person workshops: Attend one of our three-hour workshops in a town/city near you to gain a better understanding of our Investment Strategy, Grow application process and the key components of a competitive Grow Project. Webinars: We’re hosting a series of webinars to help ensure you get all the information you need.
Telephone Coaching Clinics: Attend any of our themed group conversations and come prepared with your project-based questions.
One-on-one Coaching: Once you have benefited from the in-person workshops, webinars or telephone coaching clinics, you can schedule a one-on-one coaching call with a Program Manager if you have additional questions. HELPING ENTREPRENEURS SUCCEEDCase studies on two businesses in Lanark County. Amplify was a pilot project through a partnership with Launch Lab and Valley Heartland CFDC Seniors support company Sweatergang Companions, which graduated from the Amplify program, provides seniors across Ontario with friendship, proper care, mental stimulation, and an overall improved quality of life. The company’s founder, Christine Wilson, entered into the Amplify program to extend offerings from Companionship to Personal Care Services. Newest Honorary CFDC MemberFrom time to time, we recognize someone “outside” the CFDC family whom we hold in “high regard”. Some of our past honorary members includes Barb Weider, Marg Hague, Scott Merrifield, Carmen DeMarco. Joining the ranks of this auspicious group is Lori Seeley. Lori has left a distinct indelible influence, consistently and tangibly supporting and advancing the Community Futures program year after year with a relentless understated confidence, determination and grace. What do Canadians think of entrepreneurs?BDC asked over 1,000 Canadians to tells us what they think of entrepreneurs. The results show that Canadians have a very positive view of business owners, but there’s room for improvement in at least one aspect. Learn more.
Framing, Avoiding and Overcoming FailureTo uncover how Canadian entrepreneurs view failure, Startup Canada and the TruShield Insurance Entrepreneur Success Advisory Council partnered on a national study. The results reveal insights into how organizations can improve communications and programming to help entrepreneurs avoid and overcome business challenges as they start and scale.
